Eclectic artist Ruk Rugers (1970, Melbourne) is a self-taught artist, a true craftsman. With his innate talent, he has been drawing everything the eye can see from a young age. His career began as an illustrator at an advertising agency, but his ambition grew. He self-taught himself in graphic design and worked for three years at a design studio. In 1998, he started his own design business. After working commercially for over 30 years, R U K took the step to share his own world with the public in 2022.
He paints and creates, tapping into his desires and inspirations to transform his societal engagement into visual art. He combines pop art with traditional painting, abstract work with surprising details and objects. R U K appreciates when things challenge because it can bring about movement and awareness. Stagnation is regression, and he regularly experiments with new techniques and styles. In his most recent work, he paints everyday scenes in a cinematic style.
